Our Story

1904

How it all began

Our story dates back to 1904, the year Minerva printing house was founded. At the beginning of the century, printing methods were manual, relying on the skill and artistry of craftsmen.

Historic publications were produced, such as “O Comércio de Villa do Conde” and “Illustração Villacondense”, founded and directed by the father of José Régio — today a rare work of great bibliographic value, which together with “Villa do Conde e Seu Alfoz” forms the largest written repository of Vila do Conde’s history — not forgetting the censored newspaper “A República.”

1969

In 1969, ownership was transferred to Alberto Santos, father of the current owners, who can be seen in the centre of the photo. At that time, he was a master typographer at the “Casa de Correção” — now the Monastery of Santa Clara — where, for many years, the best local graphic artists worked, including the renowned Carlos Ouvidor da Costa.

1970

Relocation to Rua de Santo Amaro, responding to the need to expand the printing house.

1975

Relocation to Rua da Lapa, now in a dedicated building with facilities that allowed the company to keep up with the technological evolution of the time.

1981

Acquisition of the first offset printing machine, a major breakthrough in the printing sector. This enabled us to print in colour with speed and quality that positioned us at a high level.

1986

Installation of the first computerized typesetting system, representing a significant leap in pagination capacity, exponentially increasing productive and creative capabilities.

2004

Move to current premises, a purpose-built facility designed and organised to accommodate a complete range of equipment and departments dedicated to pre-press, design, web, and marketing work.
